Can you help with homes for a cow and a steer who need to be rehomed together? Their caregiver writes:
I’ve had Silver and Babe since they were about six months old. A friend of mine rescued them from a dairy farm, Babe was left out in a paddock to die as a newborn and Silver was rejected by her mum. They are about 7 years old, they were born within a week or two of each other and have been together since so they need to be homed together.
General consensus from people who have seen them is that Silver is an Angus cross (maybe Angus / Jersey) and Babe is a Jersey cross (maybe Jersey / Scottish Brown). Both are quite large, both in height and weight although Silver has quite short stumpy legs!!! .
Babe is reasonably friendly – he will generally come up to the gate to get his head scratched and if I am moving them to another paddock he will come (eventually…) when I call him. He is normally quite happy to hang around if you walk up to him. Silver is more standoffish, she will follow Babe out of the paddock but won’t generally come up to be patted, although a bit of food can work wonders. They have had very little handling and I think Silver would become more friendly with some regular interaction. She isn’t aggressive in any way just would prefer to be at a little bit of distance from you.
They are pretty easy care and have been really good for cross grazing with the horses and generally keeping the grass down, the main thing they need is regular feet trimming every 6 to 12 months. Silver is the black cow and Babe is the brown / black steer.
Please contact blacksheepotaki@gmail.com if you can help with a loving forever home where Babe and Silver can live out their natural lives in peace.
