We're looking forward to longer summer days so that we can make more progress with sanctuary projects. As always, there's plenty of work to do. We've been busy moving the goat houses to new ground - this is important to reduce the risk of mites and to enable the grass to grow back. We've been improving the fences in the pig paddock because our lovely Punky Pig is sorely tempted by the vegetable garden, and keeps escaping! With all the rain this spring, the ground is still pretty soggy so we are putting down more gravel to control the mud. Thunder, Chester and Lilly are still mostly on hay and chaff to control their laminitis, but they're really enjoying a little fresh grass every day, and their walks on the tracks around the sanctuary.
If you're based in Wellington, you might like to put this date in your diary! Wellington Animal Rights Network (WARN) and the Black Sheep Animal Sanctuary are planning a fundraising vegan dinner on Saturday 10 December, 6.30 pm, at St John's Hall on Dixon Street. The menu will follow a Christmas theme, with nut roast, gravy with roast vegetables, apple crumble custard, and truffles. There will be short videos about each group, and some fun quiz questions.
