We're feeling that it must be spring with the arrival of little Bo, our newest resident! A couple of weeks ago, a very kind couple discovered an abandoned lamb in the Hawkes Bay area. It looks as if Bo (named after Little Bo-Peep) was born next to a farm fence, but as a newborn she fell through and was too weak to get back in through the fence to her mother. The umbilical cord was still attached when they found her. They took her in, fed her colostrum to give her a good start, and lovingly cared for her. However, as they didn’t have enough space to keep her permanently, they got in touch with the Black Sheep and she arrived last week. Bo is keeping us happy and busy with two-hourly feeds. She is almost unbelievably sweet and cute and everyone at the sanctuary has fallen in love with her!
We’d also like to pass on enormous thanks to the lovely people who organised the Friends of Friends of the Black Sheep gig in Auckland - we're inspired and humbled by your support. With some colder weather and more mouths to feed, we are fast using up our winter feed so we may have to top up our supplies before spring. A couple of the older animals are feeling the cold so we are providing extra bedding and straw, and we have also been making some dietary adjustments to keep all our residents happy and healthy. Some wild stormy weather has battered the sanctuary lately but luckily there has been no snow and we are very glad that spring is just around the corner.
