Sponsor one of our permanent residents
By making a small regular payment to the Black Sheep Animal Sanctuary you can individually sponsor one of our permanent residents and directly contribute towards the cost of their food, vet bills and the general care they need in order to live healthy, happy lives. In return you will receive a sponsorship certificate, regular email updates about the sanctuary animals and you can feel proud that you are making an important difference to animal lives. You will also have the opportunity to visit the animals at the Black Sheep during our summer open days, during which you will be offered a tour of the sanctuary and a vegan morning tea. The cost of sponsorship varies from animal to animal, starting from as little as $10 per month. As the sponsorship payment generally does not cover the full cost of animal care, some animals may be supported by more than one sponsor. Please read the profiles of our residents below and choose who you would like to support. Once you have decided, click the button below to fill out a sponsor form. |
Jam
Individual sponsorship: $30 per month Jam arrived with Marmalade at the Black Sheep in September 2023 when both were only two weeks of age. They were wild piglets who appeared on someone's land and would not have survived much longer without proper milk feeding and protection. They now are happily living their lives in a big paddock with their new companion, our blind pig Chicory. |

Sirius
Individual sponsorship: $40 per month Many years ago Sirius was rescued from a dairy farm as a tiny calf. If he hadn't been saved and taken to the Black Sheep he would have been trucked to the slaugherhouse at a few days of age. He is now a large and healthy cow who enjoys the company of his cow companions Rocky, Iris and Struan. |
Marshmallow
Individual sponsorship: $30 per month Marshmallow was rescued at just two days of age. A group of hikers found the orphaned wild goat kid huddled next to her mother's dead body. Thankfully they got in touch with us and brought her to the sanctuary straight away. We bottle fed Marshmallow around the clock and eventually she grew into an energetic, affectionate, cheeky goat! |
Larry
Individual sponsorship: $40 per month Larry is a friendly and curious pig, loving belly rubs and bananas. He began his life as a house pig. However, when his caregivers had to move , he narrowly escaped slaughter. He arrived at the sanctuary in December 2015 and slowly but surely settled into the sanctuary, getting to know the other pigs. |
Peter Rabbit Individual sponsorship: $20 per month Peter Rabbit was discovered sheltering in a Wellington building site. Although the workers were feeding and caring for her, this was not an ideal home for a rabbit. Fortunately the tale of Peter Rabbit has a happy ending! We took her in and settled her into our predator-free paddock, where she enjoys fresh herbs, space and the company of Nui, a large black rabbit. |
Chester
Individual sponsorship: $40 per month Chester is a rescued miniature horse who arrived at the Black Sheep in early 2016. He suffers from laminitis, but with careful attention to his diet and exercise he is well and happy, enjoying life with his friends Lilly and Thunder. |

Sunday
Individual sponsorship: $30 per month Sunday is one of our most mischievous goats! Her curiosity became apparent from a very young age and she became known as quite the escape artist. Sunday was found as a tiny kid by a couple returning from church in a rural area. They saw that her tethered mother was dead and so they rescued baby Sunday. She is now a mature goat, but still adventurous and full of high spirits. |
Nooch
Individual sponsorship: $30 per month Nooch was rescued after a neighbour's dog dragged him from of some garden bushes. He was a underweight, malnourished and infested with internal parasites. Lots of loving care has returned him to good health and he has bonded with Toffee, another young rescued wild goat. His beautiful hair is the colour of 'Nooch' savoury yeast, leading to his name. |
Spot
Individual sponsorship: $30 per month Spot is a lovely mellow white goat who came to us with his friend Archie in August 2019. The pair came from a loving home, but unfortunately their caregiver could no longer look after them. The initial introductions were very successful, and they soon formed new friendships, especially with our youngest goat Merge. |

Individual sponsorship: $30 per month Betty Boo arrived with her sister Mary-Ann in the winter of 2015. Iris
Individual sponsorship: $40 per month Iris arrived at the sanctuary as a young heifer. She had been rescued from an organic dairy farm. If she has stayed, she would have gone into the dairy industry, constantly pregnant and her babies taken away from her. We're so glad she is with us at the sanctuary. Here she is with her friend Hazel, who has since been rehomed to a safe loving home with other cows. Iris enjoys life with Sirius and Struan. |
Matata
Individual sponsorship: $10 per month Matata was hatched from an egg as part of a school project. A child in the class rescued him, looking for a safe home for him where he wouldn't be eaten or killed. He is a very friendly and gentle bird who has settled in well with the other roosters at the sanctuary. |
Sammy
Individual sponsorship: $30 per month Sammy was found in 2011 - she was curled up beside a river, washed away from her flock. She was the size of a cat, a tiny black wet sad creature. A kind family going for a walk rescued and hand-raised her. She quickly recovered. and was full of life mischief. When she became too much of a handful a few weeks later she came to the Black Sheep where she impressed us with her love of climbing and interacting with everyone |
