Sponsor one of our permanent residents
By making a small regular payment to the Black Sheep Animal Sanctuary you can individually sponsor one of our permanent residents and directly contribute towards the cost of their food, vet bills and the general care they need in order to live healthy, happy lives. In return you will receive a sponsorship certificate, regular email updates about the sanctuary animals and you can feel proud that you are making an important difference to animal lives. You will also have the opportunity to visit the animals at the Black Sheep during our summer open days, during which you will be offered a tour of the sanctuary and a vegan morning tea. The cost of sponsorship varies from animal to animal, starting from as little as $10 per month. As the sponsorship payment generally does not cover the full cost of animal care, some animals may be supported by more than one sponsor. Please read the profiles of our residents below and choose who you would like to support. Once you have decided, click the button below to fill out a sponsor form. |

However, when his caregivers had to move , he narrowly escaped slaughter. He arrived at the sanctuary in December 2015 and slowly but surely settled into the sanctuary, getting to know the other pigs. |
Mackay
Individual sponsorship: $20 per month Mackay the ram arrived at the sanctuary in the autumn of 2016 with his best friend Ronan the goat. Both had been neglected and abandoned, before being rescued by a kind couple and finding a new life at the Black Sheep Animal Sanctuary. Mackay now lives in the sheep paddock, where he has bonded strongly with his sheep friend Jacob. |
Hakuna and Matata
Individual sponsorship: $10 per month (each) Hakuna and Matata were both hatched from eggs as part of a school project. A child in the class rescued the pair, looking for a safe home for them where they wouldn't be eaten or killed. They are both very friendly and have settled in well with the other roosters at the sanctuary. |
Punky Pig

Bowie
Individual sponsorship: $10 per month Bowie has a malformed beak from a hatch defect. He loves to crow and has a beautiful smile. He has settled in with the rooster flock now and we give him extra treats that are easy to eat with a scissor beak. Bowie especially loves bananas! Nooch
Individual sponsorship: $30 per month Nooch was rescued after a neighbour's dog dragged him from of some garden bushes. He was a underweight, malnourished and infested with internal parasites. Lots of loving care has returned him to good health and he has bonded with Toffee, another young rescued wild goat. His beautiful hair is the colour of 'Nooch' savoury yeast, leading to his name. |
Pak Choi
Individual sponsorship: $10 per month 2IC was hatched from a fertilised egg as a small sweet chick. However, as he developed into a rooster and began to crow his delight to the world, he was no longer wanted, and at risk of death. Fortunately he found a home at the Black Sheep. Hilda
Individual sponsorship: $20 per month Hilda came from a lovely home but became very lonely there when her turkey friends passed away. We were looking for a companion for our turkey, Zelda, so we welcomed Hilda with to the sanctuary. The pair are now best friends and almost inseparable. |
Acorn
Individual sponsorship: $20 per month Despite his name, Acorn is not tiny! The tall sheep was originally rescued by a long-time supporter of the sanctuary, along with Butternut and Big B. Although very much loved, Acorn and his friends were such strong animals that their caregiver could no longer safely manage their regular health care. The Black Sheep is stepped in to take care of the three sheep. Comfrey
Individual sponsorship: $30 per month Comfrey and his friend Ginko are two lovely white Saneen goats, who were found as strays in the Porirua area. The Waikanae branch of the SPCA originally rescued them, but when they were unable to be rehomed, they found safety at the Black Sheep Animal Sanctuary and quickly settled in to the herd. |
Brian
Individual sponsorship: $30 per month Brian is an adorable Captain Cook pig. Some very kind people found her in the wild as a small piglet. She was near death, but they brought her home and managed to save her with lots of loving care. She has settled in well at the sanctuary and is best friends with Bessie. Although initially quite shy (as she was originally wild), years later she now enjoys a tummy rub! |

Daffy
Individual sponsorship: $10 per month Daffy and friends Sunny and Cupid were rescued as tiny ducklings after they were separated from their mothers. They were hand-raised together at the sanctuary and are now free roaming. The three still love hanging out together! |

Big B
Individual sponsorship: $20 per month Big B and two friends were originally rescued by a long-time supporter of the sanctuary. They were loved sheep, but as they were very large their caregiver could no longer safely manage their regular health care so the Black Sheep is now looking after them. |
Iris
Individual sponsorship: $40 per month Iris arrived at the sanctuary as a young heifer. She had been rescued from an organic dairy farm. If she has stayed, she would have gone into the dairy industry, constantly pregnant and her babies taken away from her. We're so glad she is with us at the sanctuary. Here she is with her friend Hazel, who has since been rehomed to a safe loving home with other cows. Iris enjoys life with Sirius and Struan. |
Almond
Individual sponsorship: $10 per month Almond was hatched from a clutch of fertile eggs in a residential area. As he grew older and started to crow he was in risk of his life. Luckily he found a safe haven at the Black Sheep and is getting on well with the other roosters. |

She and her sister are very playful, and get up to all kinds of mischief together. |
Sammy
Individual sponsorship: $30 per month Sammy was found in 2011 - she was curled up beside a river, washed away from her flock. She was the size of a cat, a tiny black wet sad creature. A kind family going for a walk rescued and hand-raised her. She quickly recovered. and was full of life mischief. When she became too much of a handful a few weeks later she came to the Black Sheep where she impressed us with her love of climbing and interacting with everyone |
Sunday
Individual sponsorship: $30 per month Sunday is one of our most mischievous goats! Her curiosity became apparent from a very young age and she became known as quite the escape artist. She is now a mature goat, but still adventurous and full of high spirits. |
