This sweet little fundraising cookbook brings together a selection of compassionate and delectable dishes - ranging from soups and salads and mains, to desserts, and cakes. All recipes are plant-based, and include details about allergens such as nuts, soy, and gluten. Many recipes have been donated by sanctuary caretakers, WWOOFers and helpers at working bees, and have been thoroughly tested by hungry appetites. All proceeds will go to support the animals at the Black Sheep Animal Sanctuary.
The book is beautifully designed by Wellington artist Kate Logan, and features colour photographs and stories about the sanctuary animals, as well as recipes and pictures of selected finished dishes. Unlike most conventional recipe books, the animals appear as persons rather than as ingredients. A Taste of Freedom weighs in at just over 100 pages, and is spiral bound, for easier use in the kitchen.
